Amorim likes Mazraoui, a smart ball that is great no matter where he stands.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is grateful to former manager Erik ten Hag for not having time to use defender Noussair Mazraoui. But it has become a legacy for the new boss to genetically modify into a primary right-back.

The Moroccan has been impressive since moving from Bayern Munich in August and has immediately become a regular at Old Trafford. As a right-back under Ten Hag, he has been instrumental in both goals and assists. Until the arrival of Amorim, the 27-year-old has been transformed into a right-back in a three-centre centre-back system. And has performed exceptionally well in the 4-0 win over Everton at the weekend.

That led the 39-year-old coach to praise Mazraoui, calling him versatile, all-round and a future regular.

“Noussair is a genius, he understands the game.” he said at the press conference before the match against Arsenal (December 4)

“That guy knows how to play offense, he’s very technical. He’s good defensively and he’s tough to play one-on-one.”

“He is a modern player. I think he has a future for us.”

“When you think of Mazraoui, you think we need more players like that. People who can control the tempo, slow and fast, more of them would be great because they are good quality and have good ball control.”

“Just ‘Noos’, I really like that guy.”

For the away game at the Emirates Stadium will the 27-year-old defender have to cross to play left-stopper in place of the suspended Lisandro Martinez? The Portuguese coach said he would not rule out that idea.
